a house of prayer
for all people."
 Isaiah

             Welcome to the Free Synagogue...

We appreciate your interest in Free Synagogue and hope the information you find on this web site will encourage you to contact us in person. In this “House of Prayer for all People,” there is a tradition of warmth and welcome for anyone seeking closer ties with Judaism.

From its earliest days Free Synagogue has been closely involved with and active in the community.  The Flushing Jewish Community Council, which is very active today as well as other community groups and food pantries had their origins in Free Synagogue.

Throughout the years the congregation’s rabbis have been consistent in their messages from the Bimah (pulpit) in support of civil rights, women’s equality and all the civic and social issues which the Reform movement considers every person’s responsibility.  The Synagogue has hosted many public figures, which includes Mayor John Lindsay, Mayor Ed Koch and Congressman Adam Clayton Powell.

There has been a special program for Martin Luther King Day from the first day, and we have welcomed speakers and choirs from our neighboring African-American churches and from the Asian community. A large parking lot and close proximity to public transportation make this center of Jewish culture easily accessible to all areas of Queens and Manhattan.
